Prof. Antonio Mantua’s new book \u201cHandbook on maritime shipping” was presented on 7 September 2022 at 19:00 in the magical setting of the Aragonese Castle here in Taranto.<\/p>\n

The Admiral of Division Salvatore Vitiello, Commander of the Southern Maritime Command, did the honors, with the participation of the President of Taranto\u2019s Port Authority, prof. Sergio Prete, the Mayor of Taranto, Dr. Rinaldo Melucci, of the President of local association of ship-agents, Dr. Giuseppe Melucci, of Taranto\u2019s Harbour Master.<\/p>\n
The author was introduced by the journalist Mrs. Deborah Giorgi, co-editor of the volume.<\/p>\n
Moderating the meeting was Pierangelo Putzolu, editorial director of Antenna Sud TV and director of the weekly journal \u201clo Jonio\u201d and \u201cAdriatico\u201d.<\/p>\n
Confindustria Taranto, Confcommercio Taranto-Optima, the Ionian Shipping Consortium, the local tugboats company \u201cRimorchiatori Napoletani\u201d, Ecologica Spa and Marraffa Trasporti, as well as other civil and military representatives and stakeholders who also participated.<\/p>\n
It is a technical book, made up of 17 chapters and 8 additional notes with the text entirely written in English which represents a complete and updated compendium available to those who want to prepare for the exam as a ship-agent and shipbroker or who wish to deepen issues related to shipping and to those who work or want to work in the port sector to have a 360-degree view of the “maritime industry”.<\/p>\n
The book opens with a note by the author, Antonio Mantua, in memory of Captain Ruggero Giorgi, one of the founding fathers of the commercial port of Taranto, as we understand it today, who died in 1991. Captain Giorgi, naval expert by profession and manager of an historic ahipping agency, experienced the epochal transformation of the shipping world, in which the main national, Union and international regulatory sources on road, sea, air and rail transport, of people and goods, accompanied by prevailing international conventions of maritime law related to the transport sector has undergone a real revolution.<\/p>\n
